CBD Oil For Epilepsy

CBD Oil For Epilepsy - Peak Organics

Have you ever considered taking CBD oil for epilepsy?

Many people use CBD oil as a treatment option to reduce seizure activity, particularly those living with drug-resistant epilepsy and uncontrolled seizures.

CBD is the second most prevalent cannabinoid found in the Cannabis sativa plant, following tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Unlike THC, CBD doesn’t have mood-altering effects, meaning you won’t get high when you use CBD oil for epilepsy.

How does CBD oil help with seizures?

Seizures are caused by changes in the electrical activity in your brain, usually as a result of epilepsy, brain infections, sleep deprivation, traumatic brain injury or drug abuse.

Currently, in the UK, Epidyolex is the only cannabis-based treatment that has been approved for treating patients with rare types of epilepsy – including Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

Although more evidence is needed to prove the efficacy of CBD oil and how it helps prevent seizures, experts believe that this chemical compound has the potential to treat some seizures. And it’s thanks to the endocannabinoid system.

Made up of neurotransmitters and receptors, the endocannabinoid system regulates bodily functions, such as sleep, pain, appetite and immune system response. When absorbed into the bloodstream sublingually (by placing a few drops under the tongue) or ingested, CBD oil interacts with the receptors and modifies these functions.

The best way to use CBD oil for epilepsy

Whether you’re looking to use CBD oil to treat your seizures for the first time or you’ve used CBD in the past for other ailments, you must always notify your doctor. They can help you to monitor the frequency of your seizures and determine whether the CBD will interact with any of the prescribed medications you’re taking at the moment.

If your doctor decides CBD oil is right for you, the best thing to do is start with a low dose twice a day. Depending on your body’s response and tolerance to CBD, you can then consider increasing your dosage.

Should you wish to stop using CBD oil for epilepsy, reduce your intake gradually. Otherwise, it could lead to an increase in seizure activity.
